Each and every member of our talented staff team has their own specialism, whether it be outdoor play, music, speech & language development, Signalong...and so on. All our original staff attended two weeks of intensive training before we opened, and further training is ongoing. Courses included Baby and Child First Aid, Signalong, Child Protection, GIRFEC, the Curriculums, Promoting Positive Behaviour, Partnership with Parents and Building the Ambition.
As a nursery we focus on continuing our professional development and take every opportunity to learn from each other, as well as participating in regular training courses. Please have a look at our Parent/Carer Handbook for more information about our commitment to training and developing each staff member's leadership skills by outlining our roles and responsibilities. A career as an Early Years Educator is so much more than "just childcare"!
From a young age I had decided that I wanted a career in the Early Years, so I began my HNC in childcare and education as soon as I left school. I have recently completed my PDA and am now in the third year of my BA Degree course in Childhood Studies. I have been working at a senior level in private nurseries ever since leaving college. I love being outdoors and enjoy giving the children in my care lots of different experiences, whether this is indoors or outdoors. In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends as well as following my local football team with my husband and son.
I have worked in Private Childcare for many years, first as a qualified Practitioner and then as a Nursery Cook, and have a wide experience of all age groups from 0-5 years. I have my SVQ3 Childcare and Development qualification, Baby and Child First Aid, and Level 2 Safer Food Handling. I love preparing fresh, home cooked, healthy meals for the children each day, and I am always complimented about how delicious my cooking is! In my spare time I enjoy cooking, home baking, gardening including growing my own vegetables, walking and spending time with my 5 year old grandson.
I have 20 years' experience working with children. After gaining my NC & HNC in Childcare and Education, I travelled overseas to work as a children's club manager. After returning to the UK, I moved into private nurseries and gained my PDA in Childcare, and have worked as a Manager in 3 different nurseries. I enjoy craft activities, cooking and baking. I am now in the third year of my BA degree course in Childhood Studies.
I have 20 years' experience in the private nursery sector, as well as after school club experience more recently. I have an extensive knowledge of child development and tailor activities and experiences to suit each individual child's interests and stage of development. I love to sing with the babies and my dulcet tones can be heard across Gorebridge!
I have 14 years' experience in a supervisory role in a local private nursery. I love working with the under 2s, and have so much to offer from my extensive training and skills in creating and overseeing quality experiences for this age group. I am looking forward to starting my SVQ 4 Leadership course in the near future.
I have been working in the Early Learning and Childcare sector for 9 years, and have been a qualified Early Years Practitioner for 8 years. I have now completed my SVQ Level 4 in Social Services (Children and Young People) focusing on Leadership and Management, and I intend to continue my training and education in the sector. I am an enthusiastic, hard working and determined individual and I have a passion for my work, helping children to learn and grow.
I have been working within the childcare sector now for about 6 years. After qualifying, I was recruited as a Senior EYP for a baby room in a lovely little private nursery which was part of a small chain. From here I climbed the ladder very fast by showing hard work and dedication to the needs and values of the children and families around me. Within 1 ½ years of being with the company and only 2 ½ of being qualified I was offered a trainee manager’s position. I worked in this position for 9 Months before a manager’s position became available in one of the company’s flagship nurseries which was very busy and closer to home. This role challenged me more than I could have thought but 1 ½ years on my husband and I decided to relocate to near Edinburgh and with this I am embracing a new challenge of working within Newbyres Nursery. It is very important for me to be working alongside the children and making a positive difference in their lives and their families and provide rich learning experiences.
Having completed my MA honours degree in Psychology and Linguistics (First Class) and my BSc in Speech Pathology and Therapy (Distinction), I worked as a Speech and Language Therapist for the NHS for 11 years, along with helping to run our family business. Always looking for a new challenge, I decided it was time for something different. I very much enjoyed running speech, language and communication groups and working in a nursery environment, and felt I could offer so much more than the experiences my own children had had at various local private nurseries. We found the ideal setting at Newbyres Hall. I run regular speech, language and communication groups at the nursery and use my skills, experience and knowledge to ensure that we are Getting It Right For Every Child, as well as upskilling our staff team with specialist training.
I qualified in 2014 with an HNC in Early Education and Childcare. I gained experience in various council nurseries for 3 years on supply before starting at Newbyres and I have never looked back! In my spare time, I am a Girls' Brigade Officer and I also volunteer with Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity.
